From our correspondent in Algeria

Sports News Africa:Sid Ali Boudina won the silver medal in 2000 meter (seniors/men), at Virtual World Indoor Rowing Championship (ergometer). How do you feel now?

Sid Ali Budina This feat is mainly due to hard winter work. This confirms my current form. It also gives me good information for next season.

This is the second consecutive year you have finished on top of the category podium. Is the goal for the next edition the first place, after you have moved up one place (bronze Medal in 2021).

This is clearly my goal for the future. I am happy with the two medals. To complete the trio, we will have more to do.

How did this large meeting get prepared?

Since last year, I have been working on it in preparation for the end to the Virtual World Rowing Championship. I learned that you must train hard to succeed in any sport, but you also need to be consistent and maintain a good training environment.

“Rowing and canoeing are difficult to develop, because they are disciplines that require a lot resources to buy boats or equipment.”

2022 has just begun in the best possible way for you. It is likely to be busy. How do you approach the deadlines for the program?

I approach each deadline with the same desire to win. The season is just beginning and you must be present at all meetings.

Next summer, you will be participating in the Mediterranean Games of Oran 2022. This is a unique opportunity to shine in Algeria.

Unfortunately, rowing was dropped from the Mediterranean Games in Oran. I would have loved the opportunity to participate in this event which is also being held in my country. It’s just how it is! It’s something we have to accept.

How do you see the evolution of your sport? Do you notice a newfound passion for canoeing or rowing?

Canoeing and rowing are difficult to develop as they require a lot money to buy boats and other equipment. However, the Federation has made many efforts in this direction over the years and we can see the evolution on the ground.

What are your medium and longer term goals? Perhaps a medal at the Paris Olympics 2024?

My medium-term goals will be the World Cup in June, and the World Rowing Championships September. And continue to prove myself internationally so that in the end – why not? – get a medal at the Olympic Games.
