The Okahandja community of Osona was delighted to see the opening yesterday of the first school in their area.

Eagles Christian Academy’s motto is “Fly Higher in Education”.

The school, which currently has pupils in grades 0 through 7, officially opened with more than 200 students.

Yesterday, Rachel Kioko, the school director, stated that Rachel was approached by a parent to care for her child’s needs.

“Two days down the line another parent who was working at a guest house at Okahandja approached me to take care of her six-month-old baby.

“I started charging parents N$250 as the numbers kept growing,” she said.

Kioko stated that she eventually hired a woman to assist her and she paid N$1 thousand.

As time passed, she started to build more classrooms until eventually considering establishing a school.

Kioko stated that the school was started in 2013 and has three students per year.

“This was not an easy journey. I nearly gave up, but I was so adamant about God that I knew this would be a great journey.

“In 2014 we managed to get up to 80 pupils, which was just for preschool. We applied for a primary school two years later, and that is how we got where we are today,” she said.

Manuel Oberholzer, principal of the school, stated that the school currently houses students in grades 0 through 7, and plans to expand classes to Grade 11.

“We intend to make this a school of excellence for the Osona community, because it is the first school ever established at Osona,” he said.

He stated that the school is close to his home, which has made his life easier.

“From grades 0 to 3, we have a teacher and an assistant teacher for every class to ensure that the slower pupils are assisted and no child is left behind,” Oberholzer said.

He advised parents to register their children at this school, as it is affordable. According to a parent who would prefer to remain anonymous, she saves time driving her child to Windhoek.

“I am so glad because my daughter does not have to wake up early in the morning, and that really does save me petrol. I am really happy,” she said.
