The master planning meeting for the African Lion 2023 exercise took place at the South Zone Headquarters in Agadir from January 9 to 20.

The meeting was held at King Mohammed VI’s instructions as Supreme Commander and Chief General Staff of Royal Armed Forces (FAR). Representatives of the US and Moroccan armed forces discussed the details of execution of various activities within the framework of 2023 edition of African Lion drills. The General Staff of FAR Monday released a statement saying that they also discussed the selection of locations for the exercises.

The statement said that in addition to training in various operational areas, and a planning exercise with staff executives, joint or combined maneuvers are planned including land, airborne and maritime special forces and CBRN decontamination (Nuclear. Radiological. Biological. And Chemical).

The American and Moroccan planners also reached an agreement on the modalities for the joint musical performance between the FAR (and the 23rd Utah State Army Band) that will be held at the sidelines of operations of the African Lion 23.

Considered one of the largest joint exercises in the world, Exercise AL23 will take place from May 22 to June 16, 2023, in the regions of Agadir, Tan Tan, Mehbes, Tiznit, Kenitra, Ben Guérir and Tifnit.

“African Lion” is the most important multinational exercise on the African continent. Its organization in Morocco every year for nearly two decades is a reflection of the strength of cooperation relations between Morocco, the United States and the Kingdom as a strategic partner.

The statement said that Morocco is a credible partner and is open to accepting the ideals of international community, particularly peace, security, and co-development.
