Committee formed to oversee resettlement of Kisumu traders – Kenya News Agency

To oversee the relocation of traders from the streets of Kisumu to the ultra-modern Uhuru Business Park, the City Management of Kisumu established a twelve-member committee.

Abala Wanga, Kisumu Acting Mayor, directed the market management committee in a notice to ensure fairness in the allocation of space at the new marketplace as the county government moves towards a ban street hawking.

The committee comprises representatives from Apindi Street, Nyamlori market, Garissa Lodge and Winam booksellers, person’s with disability, special interest groups, the youth and civil society.

The Sh. The Sh. 500 million Uhuru Business Park, which was built by the National Government to help the County government resettle the more that 10, 000 small traders who had been displaced to make way for the upgrade and modernizations of Kisumu Port.

According to the notice, the interim committee will also supervise the management of the market for a period not exceeding twelve months.

He stated that the County Government was committed to creating an environment conducive to operating in dignified spaces.

He stated that this is evident in the huge investments made by the county government into the development modern markets.
