State of health emergency extended in Morocco until Dec. 31, 2022 – The North Africa Post

The Moroccan Government decided this Thursday at the cabinet’s weekly meeting to extend the state of health emergency until December 31, 2022, to continue to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of measures taken by public authorities to stem the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Government Council reviewed and approved a draft decree that extended the state of emergency in the entire national territory, as presented by Abdelouafi Laftit (Minister of the Interior), and was adopted.

The state of emergency, which has been in effect since March 2020 and was due to expire on November 30, seeks preserve the progress made in fighting the pandemic in Morocco and to minimize the risk related to the virus variants.

The government can quickly respond to an emergency situation and adjust its preventive measures based on the epidemiological situation.

Despite improvements in the epidemiological situation over the past months, COVID-19 cases are on the rise in recent weeks. Morocco has recorded 219 cases in the past 24 hours.
Morocco reported 1,267.816 COVID-19 case reports since March 2020. This includes 16,283 deaths and 1,250,451 recovery.
