Rome (Agenzia Fides – It doesn’t matter where your home is, it doesn’t matter if you are working for the Missio ad gentes. However, it takes passion for the Kingdom and walking on earth with heaven in your heart, to look outwards and broaden the horizons to the world.
“Going beyond the known borders to meet new cultures and peoples was a hallmark of the style of the First Communities of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, eagerly to bring the most shocking and shocking announcement to the whole world: the tenderness of God’s love,” said Sister Ruth del Pilar Mora (General Councilor of the Missions of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians) at the opening of the recent meeting. “Since then began the story that is still being told today by many Daughters of Mary Help of Christians throughout 98 countries. Our first sisters to leave Italy traveled to the far ends of the globe. Sister Ruth writes that because of the generosity of so few of our sisters, all continents were embraced by our Charism.” The seed has been planted, and now many sisters are willing to act as missionaries in Europe.
Western countries, once rich in missionary cooperation donors and a source of vocations, are now facing unexpected social and cultural changes. The context in which the Christian faith must be rethought is why they are experiencing new and unexpected social and cultural changes. The General Council aimed to renew the missionary passion, reflect on the importance our presence, and offer a witness here in Europe at this 150th anniversary since the founding of our Institute.
The Missionary Sisters from eight European Provinces were able to meet the International Secretariats of Pontifical Mission Societies and the Migrantes Foundation of the Italian Bishops Conference. This was done in order to promote participation in the Church’s missionary networks, the phenomenon of migration with scientifically-based data, and a pastoral approach to a changing Europe.
The meeting, which had the theme “Being missionaries in a changing Europe” as its theme, began at the Generalate of Daughters of Saint Mary Help of Christians Rome on 14/11, the date when the 145th anniversary of first missionary sending of Daughters of Mary Help of Christians was celebrated. It concluded on November 18th. (Agenzia Fides, 23/11/2022)
