EUROPE/ITALY – A special meeting with Pope Francis to discuss life in Africa

Friday, 18 November 2022

Rome (Agenzia Fides). Stories of commitment, fatigue, results from a year of work “with Africa”, future challenges, and at the same times hidden and distant dramas, that are unknown, and that are caused or contributed to the serious world crisis in our time. These are the main themes of the Annual Meeting of Doctors With Africa Cuamm. This year, however, will be an exceptional moment. The inauguration will take place in the Vatican on Saturday November 19, 2022.
Today, Friday, November 18th, at 6:00 pm, Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle will lead the Holy Mass to welcome the CUAMM Family, who have travelled from all parts of Italy to be with Africa in the best interests of everyone’s health.
Don Dante Carraro is the director of Paduan NGO. He often stresses that “Africa is more than a misfortune that happens near to home”. “Africa is more than that, it is a great source of meaning and life, despite all the challenges. We can learn a lot from the people of Africa, especially when we look at the positive changes that are being made every day. Climate change; drought; Covid-19 and now the war with Ukraine. These are issues that affect our daily lives and in Africa they have devastating effects. Doctors with Africa want to bring attention to these problems and offer them to the Holy Father. His words and their example can serve as a guideline and point of reference for continuing the care and assistance to the most vulnerable and poorest.
After the special audience with Pope Francis the Annual Meeting will begin with a talk from Don Dante and other guests and friends, who will tell the story of the commitments made in the past year. (Agenzia Fides, 18/11/2022)
