Urunani was founded in 1978. It is currently the most well-known and successful team in Burundi, having been champion 15 times. This team qualified for Elite 16 with one goal: to play in the final phase BAL.

Urunani is without doubt the best Burundian team right now. This team, the reigning champion of Burundi has won almost all of this year’s competitions. This identity has been the club’s strength since its inception in the Bwiza Jabe district, a small district of Bujumbura. All the young people from this district and Nyakabiga dream about playing in the Urunani soccer team. These youngsters are trained by former players and form the Urunani Nursery. To support the elderly and run the succession, young people who are trained at the club get promoted to the first Division each year.

XXL Recruitment

Landry Ndikumana (captain of the team), Malick Ngezahayo, and Gibert Nijimbere are currently the best Urunani players. These players are undisputed in the club and have a significant impact on the titles Urunani wins. Urunani has also recruited elite players to compete at the continental level. These are Adjehi Nonma Baru, Adonis Jovon Filer (Rwando American), and Timajh Parker-Rivera, an American-Puerto Rican.

These recruitments were made to help Urunani reach his goal of playing in the final phase BAL in May 2023 in Kigali (Rwanda). He will need to pass the Elite 16 East division, which is fast approaching (from Nov 22 to 27 in Johannesburg South Africa). Urunani, Cape Town Tigers, NBA Academy, and Kenya Port Authority are all part of Group A.

Joseba Garca was also a highly qualified coach. This Spaniard, who has been to Portugal, Venezuela, and Mozambique before, has already proven his expertise in the two weeks that he has spent with Urunani.

Urunani’s financial heritage allows it to invest in staff and recruitment. It is a club that is largely funded by its supporters and a committee of businessmen. Urunani also relies on its partners, such as the Burunddian Bank for Trade & Investment (BBCI).
