World Cup 2022: Tunisia, the first African team to win a World Cup victory

0 218

Tunisia has failed to make it through the first round in five of its five World Cup participations (1978, 1998 and 2022), 2006, 2018, and 2018. This is a poor record for the first African selection that has won a World Cup.

Tunisia will always be remembered for the first African selection to win in the final phase of a World Cup. It was at the 1978 World Cup, Argentina. Mexico was defeated by the Carthage Eagles 3-1. This historic win was full of benefits as it will allow Africa to grow from one representative to five in the future editions.

Except for this edition of the World Cup, Tunisia has always experienced the same emotions during its four previous participations in the final phase: sadness and despair. The 1998 World Cup in France is certainly one of the most difficult.

Looking for a first qualification during the round of 16

The Hatem Trabelsi were housed in Pool G, along with England and Colombia, and Romania. Henryk Kasperczak, Polish technician, had no great arguments to support their opponents. The Three Lions beat them (2-0) in their first match. The Carthage Eagles lost a second match against the Colombians (1-0). The draw against Romania (1-1) will not stop them from finishing at bottom of the group.

Four years later, the Tunisians will have the same record and result at the 2022 World Cup Korea. They will suffer two defeats against Russia (2-0), Japan (2-0), as well as a draw that leaves them in the last place of their pool. The 2004 African champions will not win the final phase of World Cup 2006 in Germany, but they will be qualified for the round of 16. Rhadi Jaidi’s team is once again very ignorant in the competition, and they suffer two defeats and a draw to eliminate them from the group stage.

It took them 12 years, or three World Cups before they saw Tunisia again at Russia’s 2018 World Cup. If they can manage to record their 2nd edition, it will be a remarkable achievement.eAfter their victory in the tournament, the Eagles of Carthage are set to return home in round one. They are always looking for a first qualification in 8th. Will they be able defeat the Indian sign at Qatar? However, if this is possible, it will likely be necessary to play in the big game against Australia, France, Denmark, and world champions, Australia in Pool C.
