A 21-year old man from the Kavango East region’s Mukwe constituency was arrested Thursday morning for the alleged murder his mother.

Kavango East regional crime investigators coordinator deputy commissioner Bonifasius Kanyetu confirmed this incident that occurred at the deceased’s homestead at Diyogha Village.

“It is alleged that the suspect killed his biological mother by hitting her with a pounding stick and set fire to the clothes and the blankets of the deceased with the intention to destroy the evidence,” said Kanyetu.

He claimed that the suspect dug a hole in ground with the intent of burying the corpse. However, the ground was too hard for him to dig and he fled the scene.

Kanyetu claimed that the incident occurred when a member of the local community visited the woman’s house and alerted the police.

The deceased has been identified to be Theresia Capinga (57). Her next of relatives were informed about her death.

Kapinga’s remains have been transported to the Andara state morgue.

The suspect was taken into custody at the Divundu station of police.
