Cancer tea party lives up to its billing – The Namibian

LAST Saturday, the Namibia Biggest Tea, (NBT) 4 Hope, held its seventh annual Cancer Tea Party at Windhoek Sports Field under the theme “We are Victorious”.

This event was created to help people affected by cancer and offer vulnerable Namibians the chance to get free screenings.

The event attracted 120 people this year and was focused on making information about cancer available to the Namibian population and raising funds for vulnerable Namibians.

Women and men from all corners of Windhoek, dressed in the theme of the afternoon, flocked to the event themed, “Time to Shine” with the yearly motivational topic – ‘We are Victorious’.

Violette Mureko (executive director of NBT4HOPE) stated that all funds raised at the event will be donated to the Cancer Association of Namibia.

The circle of hope session was the highlight of day. It is an event tradition that allows people to express condolences while they remember those who have died from cancer and those who are still fighting it.

“The circle of hope reminded people that ‘hope’ is the pillar from which to draw their strength and also that when we cry together, we brave the storm victoriously in unison. This was a very emotional moment for everyone,” said Mureko.

Chief executive officer of CAN Rolph Hansen, a breast cancer survivorJaneneAimar and Dr EsperanceLuvindao provided detailed information on cancer, advocating awareness, prevention and risk-reduction for different types of cancer.

Luvindao stressed that it was important to have a complete medical exam and offered each lady an unassisted medical examination at the practice.

Rosalia HausikuMartins, chief executive officer at the MVA Fund, was one of many motivational speakers who spoke. She stressed the need for leaders to build value by leading from the heart and making real connections with people.

Seija Amambo was a transformational coach who encouraged people to rise again and dust themselves off in order to reach the spheres of victory.

Ethnix Namibia, Chikune, and Maranatha were among the top entertainers at the event.

The event was a huge success, with the longest time anyone stayed at the venue. The competition’s winner was awarded a weekend for 2 sponsored by Gondwana.

The night was full of excitement, entertainment, great food and love!
