Dire Dawa City of Ethiopia and the neighboring country’s city of Djibouti have expressed intent to revitalize and cooperate in fostering and promoting culture, tourism, the flow of trade.
According to information released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, the mayors of both cities have also signed an agreement today to encourage investment and infrastructural capacity-building ties between the peoples of these two cities.
“The Mayor of Dire Dawa City, Kadir Juhar, is in Djibouti on a three-day working visit in order to revitalize the already vibrant and intricately entwined sister cities of Dire Dawa City and Djibouti City,” it said quoting the Ethiopian Embassy in Djibouti.
“The Mayors of Dire Dawa, Kadir Juhar, and Djibouti, Said D. Mohamed, signed the MoU in recognition of the deep socioeconomic, cultural, and historical ties between the residents of Dire Dawa and Djibouti, which stem from the existing, long-established, and constantly evolving cordial relations between the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the Republic of Djibouti.”
Following the inking ceremony, Dire Dawa’s mayor and his delegation, along with Berhanu Tsegaye, the FDRE Ambassador to Djibouti, presented 62,000 seedlings as a gift to the mayor of Djibouti, Djibouti Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Resources representatives, and other distinguished guests.
“As part of expanding the country’s Green Legacy initiative to neighboring countries, Ethiopia has managed to deliver 62,000 seedlings to Djibouti in the 3rd round. According to the Ethiopian Embassy Djibouti: “A quarter of a Million trees have been offered so far, which has engendered an exemplary green economic integration.”
Railway construction started in 1897 progressed inland from Djibouti & reached Dire Dawa in 1902. The train has been instrumental in cultural exchange and the formation of a family. Tonight, I had the pleasure of sharing a family dinner with the mayors of both cities. pic.twitter.com/RKf8NpytKJ
