Moscow (Agenzia Fides). “Bringing peace doesn’t mean smoothing over all the roughness or leveling the differences. Peace means to accept everyone, even those with different opinions. Peace is above all the ability of forgiveness. Monsignor Paolo Pezzi (Archbishop of the Archdiocese of the Mother of God) introduced the recitation of the Holy Rosary at the Catholic cathedral of Moscow yesterday evening, Friday October 7. It was done to mark the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. The Archbishop, in communion with Pope Francis led the prayer before the Eucharist was exposed. After that, he celebrated mass with the intention to give peace. In this context, Archbishop Peterzzi offered a concrete description to those present at the cathedral and those who listened to the Eucharistic liturgy online. He said that although peacemakers often seem weak, they are actually very strong because they can maintain calm and clarity and know how to place everything. The awareness of one God as your children is the first value in the hierarchy of values. This awareness is a guarantee for peace. Mary, You are Queen of Peace because everything in your life was rightfully yours. In his homily, the Archbishop recalled the historical origins and the history of the liturgical feast, which was established by Pius V in 1572 in commemoration of the victory at Lepanto (7 October 1571). The Archbishop added: “While fighting took place, Pius V had decided that he would pray and fast. We all know the outcome of the battle, but not everyone is aware that the great admiral of Christian fleet warned Pope of Rome that it wasn’t the weapons or prowess the sailors that won the victory but the prayers of Holy Rosary.
The Russian Federation has less than 1% Catholic population.
The Archbishop referred to prayer as a privileged, realistic act that can be practiced to deal with the current circumstances. A sense of powerlessness that leads us to distrust seems to prevail. “We don’t even imagine how great is prayer in the eyes God Jesus.” He said this in a well-known passage in the Gospel of Luke and was amazed that His disciples didn’t believe in it. This temptation exists for all of us. We are here today to ask for peace and to soften hearts. (…) The God who cannot be defined and cannot be contained, longs to live in our hearts. What are we to do? What do we say to the people who, in some way or another, determine the fate of the world?
Today we want to open their hearts, but first, it is important that we open our hearts. Only then, will our prayers be true, and it will be for all men. “Not for the realization or fulfillment of our plans, but for God’s plan.”
The Archdiocese of the Mother of God, led by Archbishop Pezzi, covers an area of 2,629,000 km² and includes about a hundred communities. (CD) (Agenzia Fides, 8/10/2022)
