Mogadishu (SONNA) – Samantha Power, USAID Administrator, announced an additional $151 Million in funding for Somalia programs on September 21.

“Populations in two districts of Somalia’s Bay Region are [also] projected to face Famine between October and December if an urgent increase in assistance does not reach individuals most in need,” it added.

According to UN reports, the estimated number affected by drought in Somalia stands at 7.8 millions people and 1.1million people displaced since January.

In his address to the UN General Assembly, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud called on the international and world partners to aid the nation in preventing the imminent famine.
