Tourists offering N$17 000 reward to recover stolen equipment – The Namibian

TOURIST couple who was robbed from a camera bag that contained photographic equipment worth N$170000 is offering a reward for information about the robbers.

Edwardo Duarte was robbed by Kristi, his wife, at the APS guesthouse Windhoek in July 2022.

Kristi said that the suspects were driving a silver Volkswagen Polo equipped with fake number plates N189-846 W. They were found parking on the sidewalk outside of the guesthouse.

“When they saw that no security guard was present, they drove into the guesthouse courtyard, turned their vehicle around and approached the bags that Mr Duarte was still unloading,” Kristi said.

She explained that her husband was turning his back when one of the suspects got out of the car. He grabbed the camera backpack and they drove off.

Duarte said that the backpack contained professional camera equipment including a Nikon D850 and three Nikon lenses, as well as a GoPro Hero 5 and a SB900 flash. Also, there was US$500 in cash, memory card and memory cards.

“The approximate value of everything is N$170 000, but the photos of the unforgettable Namibian trip are priceless,” she said.

Silas Shipandeni (Khomas police spokesperson) confirmed the robbery, and that a criminal case has been opened.

He stated that no arrests had been made and that police investigations are ongoing.
