Patriots, the four-time champions, defeated bitter rivals Rwanda Energy Group 83-78 on Friday night to complete a double victory over them this season.
Patriots’ small forward Dieudonné Ndizeye contributed a game high 19 points as his side overcame the defending champions to once again showcase that they are a force to reckon with.
The Patriots won the first quarter 14-10, and drew their second quarter 25-25. They went into the half-time break leading by 35-39 points.
REG won the second half 26-22. However, Kenny Gasana and Ntore Habimana took control of the third quarter and claimed the final quarter at 22-17. Kendall Gray and Kendall Gray worked hard to ensure the Patriots won the last quarter, and they won the game.
Bernard Olouch, head coach of Patriots, said that the win was a positive step forward and a boost.
Besides Dieudonné Ndizeye’s scoring exploits for Patriots, fellow players Ntore Habimana and Kendall Gray added 18 and 16 points respectively.
APR also beat United Generation Basketball (UGB), by 86 to 42.
