Rayon Sports announced Tuesday the signing of Abdul Rwatubyaye, a Rwandan international, on a two year contract.

This development marks the second stint of the defender with the Blues. He previously left the club back in 2018.

The towering centre-back hasn’t been with a club since June after parting company with North Macedonian champions FC Shkupi FC.

Rayon’s resignation was unexpected after it had been reported that Rayon was close to joining AS Kigali. He had also been training there since last month.

Rwatubyaye couldn’t contain his excitement when he was interviewed as a Blues player for the first time.

“I’m returning to the place I call home,” he declared.

The 26-year old spent two seasons with Rayon, 2016 and 2018, and was instrumental in leading them to the final eight of the CafConfederation Cup. This was his last campaign before he joined Sporting Kansas City in the U.S.

“I am here for the team to win titles again and represent my country in CAF competitions.”
