On Tuesday, August 9, the Confederation of African Football conducted the draw for the preliminary rounds of 2022-2023 CAF Champions League. The first round will see 52 teams participate. Six clubs were exempted to the first round and will now be eligible for the second round. They are TP Mazembe (DRC), Al Ahly (Egypt), Wydad Casablanca (Morocco), Raja Casablanca (Morocco), Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa) and Espérance de Tunis (Tunisia).
The first leg will take place from September 9-11, 2009. The return matches are scheduled between September 16-18.
