Rwanda 59-52 Cameroon

Cameroon was defeated 59 to 52 by the national basketball team on Saturday, July 2. This was the team’s first win in the qualifiers for the FIBA World Cup 2023.

Rwanda had lost every game it had played in the qualifiers’ two windows prior to the match.

Rwanda’s win against Cameroon gives it a chance at the next round of qualifiers.

Group B has already seen South Sudan and Tunisia progress to the next round. Cameroon as well as Rwanda will be competing for the last place. Each country has only one victory in the group games that will be held on Sunday, July 3.

The Rwandan victory over Cameroon was hard fought. Despite trailing for most of the game, the West Africans didn’t give up.

The first quarter ended 19-7 in favour of Rwanda, the second one 15-8 with the hosts in control, but  the Cameroonians narrowed the lead in the second half to end the game in a slightly slim 59-52 victory for Rwanda.

William Robeyns scored a buzzer beater at the end of the second half.

Sunday’s final Group B game will see Rwanda take on Tunisia.
