Commonwealth Games-marathon: Kenya wants to avenge the affront

The kenya athletics federationNamed the eight marathoners who will represent Kenya at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. The last games in Australia saw Kenya return empty-handed. Peres Jepchirchir and his compatriots are expecting a different outcome. They want to be the best in the English city.

The Kenya women’s team’s headliner is Stella Barsosio. The Rotterdham Marathon winner in 2021, with a personal best time of 2h22mn8s. The 29-year old athlete was also crowned in Belgrade (Poland), Krakow (Poland), Skopje in North Macedonia, and Sydney. Margaret Wangari, the 2020 Los Angeles marathon winner and the 2019 Honolulu Marathon winner, will be there. Wangari was also a bronze winner at the last African Championships. This team includes Purity Changwony, who has a PB time of 2h22mn46s, and Maurine Cherpkemoi (2h29mn29s).

Jonathan Korir will be the leader of the men’s team. The cross-country skier won the Amsterdam Marathon last summer with a personal best time of 2h04mn32s. The other Kenyan runners are Philemon Kacheran Eric Kiptanui, Micheal Githae and Micheal Kiptanui. The president of Kenya’s Olympic committee is optimistic that these athletes will bring joy to the country. “We have selected the best team for the marathon and we are confident that they can do well once lined up for the race”Paul Targat.

The Commonwealth Games track-and-field events will be held between August 2-8.
