Mbumba pays tribute to former Tanzanian president Ali Hassan Mwinyi
President Nangolo Mbumba has acknowledged the impression former Tanzanian president Ali Hassan Mwinyi, who died this week, had on Namibia’s wrestle for freedom.
Mbumba delegated vp Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah to symbolize Namibia at Mwinyi’s funeral service in Tanzania on Saturday.
In his message of condolences, Mbumba emphasised the friendship cast between Tanzania and Namibia throughout the apartheid period.
“Namibians will always remember the function Tanzania and president Mwinyi performed in advancing Namibia’s trigger for freedom,” Mbumba acknowledged. “In the present day, our bilateral relations are sound due to robust historic bonds of friendship,” he added.
Mbumba mentioned Mwinyi’s legacy as an advocate for African liberation actions resonates deeply inside Namibia.
Mbumba reassured the Tanzanian individuals of Namibia’s solidarity throughout the nation’s interval of mourning.
Mwinyi died on Thursday (29 February) on the age of 98.
He was laid to relaxation at his house village, Mangapwani, on Unguja, the principle island of Zanzibar, on Saturday.
Mwinyi succeeded Tanzania’s first post-independence president, Julius Nyerere, in 1985, and served as president till 1995.
His son Hussein Ali Mwinyi is the present president of Zanzibar
