AMERICA/PARAGUAY – Laity: Samaritans of our time and our tradition, for social and ecclesial transformation

Caacupé (Agenzia Fides) – “Based on their baptismal id, the laity assume the dedication to be genuine Christians, in order that in each social, political, financial, ecclesial actuality … they will embody values and spotlight virtues that contribute to communion, to dialogue and participation”. Likewise, it’s the dedication of all of the laity to determine the “Kingdom of God and his justice” in our society, being “salt and light-weight” of the earth, “witnesses of the Gospel”, to be compassionate Samaritans in our time and in our tradition, for ecclesial and social transformation. Lastly, the laity are known as to contribute to the sanctification of the world.
These are a few of the issues that emerged from the assembly which, beneath the signal of the 12 months of the Laity that the Church of Paraguay has simply skilled (see Fides, 19/11/2021; 22/11/2021), introduced collectively on 25 and 26 March, in Caacupé the Nationwide Coordination of the Laity of Paraguay. Lay representatives of dioceses, actions, teams and ecclesial communities had been current within the Nationwide Shrine, accompanied by the Bishop of Caacupé, Monsignor Ricardo Valenzuela, the Bishop in control of the Pastoral Care of the laity, Monsignor Celestino Ocampo, and the diocesan advisor, Father Heriberto Fernandez.
The central themes of the assembly had been “Id, spirituality, mission and apostolate of the laity” and the message of Pope Francis on “The co-responsibility of the laity within the mission”, deepened with the reflection directed by the laity Genaro Fernández and Eudelio Cardozo and by Bishop Celestino Ocampo. Based on the knowledge disseminated by the Episcopal Convention, for the reason that laity are known as to contribute to the sanctification of the world, reflection was made on the works of the laity within the temporal sphere. Different parts discuss with the promotion of the individual and human dignity, equality between them; the protection and promotion of spiritual freedom, freedom of conscience and freedom of worship; dedication to political life and financial and social improvement; the union of efforts to revive peace on this planet and contribute to the event of human tradition.
Following the methodology used within the continental section of the Synod, there was a dialogue on ” give witness to life within the completely different environments we frequent: at work or within the work surroundings, in training, within the household, in relation to well being, the distribution and administration of land and the housing system”.
And together with this, on ” be a prophet, priest and king within the present context and what we really feel known as to”. Listening to the lived experiences, the necessity for a coherent life emerged: “assuming the dedication and honoring it, proclaiming and denouncing”. As well as, it’s crucial to coach for service, to make our abilities out there.
A 3rd side remembers the fact of incorporation into Christ via Baptism, “to bear witness to Him, being monks, prophets and kings in several environments, beginning with one’s family, to challenge oneself in society pretty much as good residents”. On this sense, solidarity
was highlighted for coping with conditions such because the pandemic and to have interaction in social initiatives to assist the underprivileged (indigenous, peasants, and many others.), those that struggle in opposition to the corrupt system of land distribution and different life threatening conditions, akin to abortion and euthanasia.
The assembly concluded with the Holy Mass wherein Monsignor Celestino Ocampo invited the laity to bear witness and coherence of life in several spheres, to permit themselves to be challenged by the Phrase of God, to not be complicit in injustice and corruption, to proclaim Christ by being merciful to probably the most susceptible, to stay Holy Week. Then he invited us, trying on the Cross, to assume that Jesus asks every certainly one of us: “for whom or for what’s it price giving one’s life?
