Dams at 71% of storage capacity – The Namibian

Namibia’s main dams have reached 71% of their combined storage capacity and hold 1 102 millions cubic metres of water.

According to NamWater’s Tuesday update on the country’s dam levels, Swakoppoort dam and Von Bach dams, which supply Windhoek with water, they are now filled to 74% & 30%, respectively.

Swakoppoort dams and Von Bach dams were filled to 79% & 46% of their storage capacities one year ago.

NamWater monitors dams for their water storage. This is a significant increase from the 1282 million cubic metres stored a year earlier.

The Hardap Dam is filled to 47% of its capacity – compared to 70% at this time last year, while the Naute Dam near Keetmanshoop is at 74% (76% a year ago).

The Neckartal Dam has 93% capacity and holds 799,000,000 cubic metres of water.

Near Rehoboth is the Oanob Dam, which has 65% of its storage capacity.

The combined storage capacity of the Gobabis dams is currently 2,5 million cubic meters. This is 13% of their total storage. One year ago, the combined storage capacity of all dams in the Gobabis region was 26%.
