Washington reaffirms strong backing to Autonomy Plan – The North Africa Post

U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs Michele Sison has reaffirmed Washington’s steadfast support to the Moroccan autonomy plan offered for a lasting resolution of the Sahara issue, describing the plan as “serious, credible and realistic”.

At a press briefing held Wednesday, after talks with Foreign Minister Nasser Borita, Mrs. Sison said that the United States still views Rabat’s autonomy proposal as credible, realistic, and serious.

The U.S. Assistant Secretary stated that the priority of the United States was to support a credible process that leads to a lasting solution for the Sahara conflict.

She said her talks with Bourita focused on continued U.S. support for UN Sahara Envoy Staffan De Mistura, MINURSO’s peacekeeping efforts and the UN mission’s importance in preserving the UN-led peace process.
