Pakistan invited Morocco to participate in the 8th Naval Exercise Aman, (Peace), to be held in February next year by this South Asian Muslim country.

According to press reports the invitation was extended by Chief of Pakistan Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Amjad Khan Niazi during a visit to the North African kingdom.

During this visit, Head of Pakistan’s navy met with Vice-admiral Mustafa El Alaoui, Royal Moroccan Navy Inspector. The talks were focused on mutual interest, naval cooperation and regional maritime security, as well as bilateral collaboration.

Multinational exercise AMAN 23 aims to improve interoperability among regional and other navies. It is a global platform to strengthen communication among participating naval fleets, as it takes place in an area of the Indian Ocean that is increasingly vulnerable to illicit activities.

The Indian Ocean is the world’s busiest trade corridor. Two-thirds of global oil shipments and one-third of bulk cargo transit via this Ocean, roughly 80 pc of China’s. Around 90 % of South Korea’s and 90 % of Japan’s oil pass through the Indian Ocean.

AMAN promotes a collective vision to improve maritime security in both the Arabian Sea region and the wider Indian Ocean. The exercise is designed for unimpeded and secure trade in the Indian Ocean region.

“Highlight of Aman-23 is its concurrent conduct with maiden Pakistan international Maritime Expo and conference planned February 10 to 12, 2023,” an official of the organising team of this global event had told the media. According to the official, Aman-23 will be divided into two phases: harbour and sea. The harbour phase would see maritime counter terrorism demonstrations by Pakistan Navy Special Services Group (SSG), and Pakistan International maritime expo and conference. While the sea phase would see Pakistan Navy perform surface firing on killer tomatoes, rocket depth charge firing, and surface firing on killer tomato, which are popular and most loved events.
