King Mohammed VI on Monday inaugurated the new bus station of Rabat, a project constituting a fundamental component in the restructuring of the capital’s southern entrance, modernizing interurban transport sector at the level of the conurbation and consolidating the image and attractiveness of the Capital of the Kingdom.

The new bus station of Rabat, which is in line with the objectives of the integrated development program of the city, called “Rabat City of Light, Moroccan Capital of Culture”, has 46 bus platforms and a 22-place long-term parking lot for buses, against 38 platforms in the old bus station of Al Kamra.

The new bus station can hold more than 10,000 passengers per day. This is in addition to an outdoor parking lot for cars, cabs, and drop-off areas. It houses a shopping centre with 40 shops, whereas the Al Kamra station only had 15 commercial premises.

The project, which requited MAD 245 million investments, illustrates the Sovereign’s firm commitment to provide the city of Rabat with infrastructure commensurate with its status and in line with the expectations of the population, residents and visitors.

The new bus station was designed in an architecture that combines modernity with authenticity. It is located at the southern end of the Rabat–Casablanca highway, near the Prince Moulay Abdallah Sport Complex of Rabat.

The Sovereign launched construction of the bus station in October 2017. It meets all modern architectural standards. This allows for an efficient management of passengers, a stronger external environment, and compliance to safety, security, and quality of services.

The new-generation bus station features an integrated management system that facilitates passenger information, facilitates travel ticket purchase, and ensures passenger transport and logistics operations are managed efficiently.

This system saves time and helps to identify the departure and arrival times for buses and their routes. It also helps to avoid intermediaries and fight illegal increases in ticket prices. The goal is to promote road passenger transport, which connects different cities within the Kingdom and creates many jobs.

The new station has the infrastructure and equipment to allow passengers and visitors to enjoy the best service, in compliance with safety regulations.

The same applies to road transport professionals, who have access to the new structure to improve their competitiveness and increase their turnover while maintaining their dignity.

The new bus station’s strategic location and connection to the network national roads and highways will help reduce traffic congestion in Rabat. This will result in a reduction of pollution and optimize passenger transport.

The King has taken many initiatives and actions to improve living conditions in the Kingdom. This new station in Rabat is intended to ensure a balanced, inclusive and integrated development of all the cities.
