Wednesday’s Egyptian Cabinet approved a draft of a law criminalizing false weather forecasts.

The draft law will impose fines of EGP 100,000 ($4,000) and EGP 5 Million for providing meteorological services without a licence or posting false information about weather conditions via different channels, including Ahram online reports, social media, Ahram online reports, and Ahram online reports.

Cabinet also stated in a statement that the draft law imposed the exact same penalty on the establishment and operation of meteorological stations or weather forecast centers without obtaining a license.

The draft law targets people who issue any meteorological data or information and falsely attributes them to the Egyptian Meteorological Authority.

Purchasing meteorological equipment or stations that do not meet the technical specifications approved by the authority and that are bought without the EMA’s consent is punishable by the same fine, according to the statement.

The law gives the court the power to order the confiscation of the equipment and tools used in the crime and to hand them over to the EMA.
