Libyan FM commends Morocco for its ‘positive role’ in supporting stability in Libya – The North Africa Post

Libyan Foreign Minister Najla Mangoush commended, Tuesday in Fez, the “positive role” of Morocco in supporting stability in Libya.

“The Kingdom of Morocco has always played a positive role in supporting stability in Libya and the efforts of the Government of National Unity and Libyan institutions to move forward and achieve a constitutional basis for the organization of free and fair elections, accepted by the Libyan people,” stressed Mangoush, in a statement to the press after talks with Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, on the sidelines of the 9th forum of the Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC).

“The stability of Libya is part of the stability of the region, and we will not be stable without the efforts of our brothers, whether on the African continent or in the Maghreb countries, as well as within the European Union and the Union for the Mediterranean,” she added.

Bourita, on his part, recalled the position of Morocco regarding Libya’s stability, and highlighted King Mohammed VI’s special interest in this brotherly Maghreb state.

He also indicated that Morocco is closely following developments on Libyan scene. He described these developments in a global positive light, given that solutions based around dialogue, respect for institution and work for the benefit of Libyan people and their interests have been privileged.

Bourita also stated that Morocco will stand by Libya and its institutions and will work within a framework of supporting the efforts of United Nations to achieve elections that will end the debate over legitimacy. He stated that Libya is essential for the Maghreb and the Mediterranean, as well as Africa.

The talks gave the opportunity to reiterate these positions and to coordinate on matters of common interest at the Union for the Mediterranean, the African Union and the League of Arab States.

On the sidelines of UNAOC Forum, Bourita held a series of meetings with his counterparts from several countries, including Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mevlut Cavusoglu and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Immigration and Asylum of Luxembourg, Jean Asselborn.

Bourita also held talks with Gambia’s Minister of International Cooperation, Mamadou Tangara, and Foreign Minister Guinea-Bissau, Suzi Carla Barbosa.
