It is important to recall that the Government of South Africa and the Tigray Peoples Liberation Front signed a Cessation of Hostilities Agreement, (CoHA), in South Africa in order to end the two-year-old conflict between Northern Ethiopians.

The African Union Commission Chairperson is to be commended for his visionary leadership in playing an instrumental role in the peace process, thereby fulfilling the union’s motto: “African Solutions to African problems.” The AU will continue to play an important role in the implementation of the Agreement through the High-level Panel and through African experts to monitor the cessation of hostilities.

There has been a lot of outcry from both at home and abroad about the implementation of the peace agreement. In an effort to bring peace to the region, the Government of Ethiopia has vowed to continue implementing the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed recently pointed out that the Government of Ethiopia should no longer be judged by conspiracy theories and rumours. It should be judged on the basis of its willingness to implement the peace agreement, as it has demonstrated.
