After three suspects were arrested in connection to the brazen burglary, investigations into the theft of four assault weapons at Kipasi Police Post (Homa Bay County) intensified.

Moses Lilan, Homa Bay County Commissioner, stated that the trio were taken into custody as persons of interest. They were helping police trace and locate the stolen guns and an estimated 130 rounds ammunition.

“We have established a specialized team to track down more suspects in connection with the break-in at the police post before the unknown number of raiders made away with the rifles and more than 130 rounds of ammunition,” he said.

The officers were unaware that a gang had entered the police station Wednesday night to steal three AK47 rifles and one G3 riffle as well as 130 rounds of ammunition.

A preliminary investigation at the scene of the crime revealed that the burglars had broken into the steel box used for the armory. This occurred at a moment when none of six police officers attached to this post were reportedly present at the station.

After the security agencies came across them on a mission, they found two of the rifles abandoned by the thugs.

Lilan however expressed optimism about the possibility of the recovery of the missing firearms during the investigations. The search mission that was combing through Kipasi and its environs was seeking major leads.

“We have enlisted key players in the search mission including the National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs) infrastructure, Nyumba Kumi and village elders and the general public to assist with any vital information that could lead us to the missing firearms,” he added.

He stated that the team would do whatever it took to recover firearms from criminals who had planned the raid in advance to exploit the security breach at the station.

“We will definitely find these criminals and deal with them decisively and retrieve the guns from their hands at all costs. I want to confirm that we will do whatever it takes to recover the firearms,” Lilan, who chairs the County Security Committee asserted.

He stated that sufficient security personnel were mobilized in the county to track down outlaws, but urged the public not to divulge any information without ensuring confidentiality.
