Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, launched the National Plan of Green Somalia, and planted one of the 10 million trees in the nation’s home.

The president emphasized the importance of trees in our country, which has been plagued with repeated droughts. This has had a significant impact on the difficult circumstances that the country has faced, which has resulted in severe erosion that has affected both life and the environment.

“The destruction that occurred in the country did not only affect the people, but it caused severe problems in the Somali environment. We lost the animals & plants that were so famous in our country. The reconstruction of the government should go hand in hand with the regeneration of the environment and the development of the public’s awareness of the wellbeing of the environment,” the President said.

The President directed the government agencies to lead this plan and plant trees inside their offices.

President Hassan Sheikh directed the Banadir Regional Administration and Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of Federal Government of Somalia, to plant 100,000 trees in the capital during the remaining two months of the calendar year. This was to allow for the continuation of the reforestation of all state capitals and all regions of the country.
