Nandi County security officials have developed a new approach for fighting crime and serving residents better.

As part of President William Ruto’s new model, called Bottom Up, various government security personnel will share their personal mobile phones to the public.

This approach is part of new measures to engage the public, especially rural villages.

Herman Shambi from Nandi County said that the move would increase the exchange of timely and valuable information about security issues between locals as well as authorities.

“We expect the new model will stamp out acts of lawlessness, reduce insecurity and make our work easier,” he said,

This approach will require the County Commissioner, six deputy commissioners, chiefs, village elders, Nyumba Kumi officials, and chiefs to give their mobile phone numbers to residents.

Locals claim that the move will play an important role in fighting crime and allow security personnel the freedom to interact freely with the public.

“We always have difficulties accessing security officials whenever an incident occurs. But with these new model we will be able to report insecurity incidences on time,” said Janet Maiyo a fruit vendor at Kapsabet market

She explained that the new approach will reduce travel costs for those who need assistance from local authorities.

In an act of leadership, the County Commissioner gave his phone numbers out to conductors, matatu drivers and mama mbogas at Kapsabet.

He directed the chiefs of security to create a WhatsApp group for all villager to share information about their localities. This will enable security officers to respond quickly to any emergency and to receive instant updates on any incident.

“This will enable us to access useful information across the County within a short period of time. Let’s embrace the idea,” said Shambi.
