The Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters has expressed concern at the postponement by the China Town court case to 21 Nov 2022.

Monday’s Katutura Magistrate’s Court moved the case of Michael Amushelelo (NEFF member), Dimbulukeni Nauyoma (Affirmative Repositioning activist) and five other cases to next month to allow for further investigations and for the prosecutor to make a final determination.

They are accused of leading protests against destruction of counterfeit goods belonging Namibians. However, the Namibian government allows foreign nationals to purchase similar goods.

KalimboIipumbu, NEFF’s media representative, said that they didn’t expect that such a case involving citizens taking the initiative to exercise democratic rights to protest would take too long to resolve in court.

“The party has taken note of the gravely concerning incompetence of the state in its inability to expedite investigations and have the matter put to rest via due court process,” Iipumbu said.

He stated that the party believes there will be no justice in the nation if certain groups of businesspeople are permitted to trade in counterfeit products while the Namibian Revenue Agency is burning down goods belonging the citizens.

“Up to this day and even as our members continue to be in and out of the courts, and continue to face the likely threat of arrest, no single business has been visited at China Town by Namra, no counterfeit product from that business area has been burnt down,” he said.
