Motherson has inaugurated a new facility in Tanger Med Industrial Platform, Morocco, replacing the existing Tétouan site, which was established in 2010.

Motherson released a press release stating that the new facility is part of its Modules and Polymer Products Division and will produce interior components and modules such as door panels and instrument panels for passenger and light commercial vehicles.

The new facility, which covers 15,000m2, will house 300 people at peak production. It will focus on plastic injection molding and other state of the art processes like high-precision robot assisted milling, plastic welding and airbag-integration solutions.

In addition to the facility, Motherson’s expansion plans in Tangier include establishing in-house capabilities for high-quality soft-touch surfaces for automotive interior parts based on modern polymer-based finishes.

V C Sehgal, Chairman, Motherson, inaugurated the facility. Representatives from Tanger Med Group, the Moroccan Government and Administration, and key automotive industry players were also present.

V C Sehgal said, “Morocco is a very strategic location for Motherson due to its proximity to Europe and the Middle East. This new facility will allow us to better serve our existing and new customers in these areas. We are grateful to Tanger Med and the Moroccan government for their continued support in accelerating investment in Tangier. We are committed to continuing our efforts to support the automotive sector in this region to enable it to reach its full potential.”

Motherson has 103 manufacturing facilities in 25 countries. They produce a wide variety products, from simple plastic parts, to highly integrated systems, and modules. Motherson supplies major automotive OEMs all over the world.
