Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission’s Vice President visits Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Agencies and Projects in The Gambia – African Business

The Vice President, ECOWAS Commission Damtien L. Tchintchibidja, was on a Mission to monitor ongoing activities in The Gambia by the ECOWAS Commission and its partners in The Gambia. She engaged the project team from The Gambia Pilot to the Regional Stabilization and Development Fund in order to observe the status and collect key lessons that could be used in the design and implementation strategies for additional countries under the Fund, namely Niger, Guinea Bissau, and Mali.

She congratulated GAMWORKS and GIZ for their work so far and encouraged them to accelerate the implementation of remaining activities as the project closes in December 2023. She stressed the importance to use the project to build resilience by providing basic social services and creating sustainable economic opportunities.

The Vice President visited the site of a Fish Processing Site, which was built under the project to support the economic activities of women in Brufut. Also, she visited an 80-bed student dormitory, which was built under the project to enhance vocational training at Gambia Technical Institute (GTTI) Mansa Konko. She saw some innovations by the students and encouraged Vocational Institute to use the support of the ECOWAS Commission (and its partners) to increase access to vocational skill development for youth in the country.

The Vice President also visited the newly created National Centre for the Coordination of Early Warning and Response Mechanisms (NCCRM), the ECOWAS Regional Competition Authority, (ERCA), the Headquarters of the ECOWAS Military Interventions in The Gambia(ECOMIG), and had a working session in The Gambia with Mrs Miatta France, the ECOWAS Resident Representative, the West Africa Police Information System team (WAPIS), and partners from the International Criminal Police Organizations (INTERPOL), and the European Union (EU) and the European Union (EU) and the Union (EU) and the European Union (EU).
