Aziz Akhannouch, Head of Government, arrived in Tokyo to represent King Mohammed VI at this Monday’s state funeral of Shinzo Abe, former Japanese Prime Minister.

More than 700 foreign guests are expected to attend the memorial service honoring Japan’s former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, which will take place on Tuesday in the Japanese capital.

One of Japan’s most influential politicians, Shinzo Abe was assassinated on July 8 while he was delivering an electoral campaign speech in western Japan.

King Mohammed VI had sent condolences to Naruhito, the Emperor of Japan, following this assassination.

The King had said in a message that he was “deeply sorrowed by the despicable assassination of the late Shinzo Abe,” and conveyed his heartfelt condolences and sincere feelings of compassion to the family and loved ones of the former PM.

The King described Abe as an “accomplished leader, who devoted his life to the service of the supreme interests of his compatriots and to their aspirations.”
