EUROPE/AUSTRIA Archbishop Dal Toso: The Pontifical Mission Societies form a universal family

Vienna (Agenzia Fides). – A “special” network in the Catholic Church. It is characterized by its “closeness to Pope” as one his aid organizations, and on another by its connection to local Churches that it accompanies them on their missionary journey: these were the words of Archbishop Giampietro Di Toso (Pontifical Mission Societies President) during the visit to Missio Austria under the auspices of the Austrian Pontifical Mission Societies
The two-day visit took place in Vienna’s heart. It was the third to be conducted with Father Tadeusz Nowak of the Pontifical Society for the Propagation of the Faith and Father Guy Bognon of the Pontifical Society of St. Peter the Apostle. Sister Roberta Tremarelli of the Pontifical Society of the Holy Childhood also participated in the visit. They furthered their cooperation with Missio Austria, and discussed activities and programs.
The President of Pontifical Mission Societies expressed appreciation for Missio Austria’s work: “My visit was intended to express my appreciation for the many initiatives that were organized in the National Direction of Missio Austria.”
The Pontifical Mission Societies are Archbishop Dal Toso’s “unique worldwide family”. The Church’s vitality in many parts of the globe inspires courage: “The numbers of Catholics in Africa, Asia and elsewhere are increasing.” This is a fact. This is why the energy and spirit of the countries from the Global South can be a source of inspiration for us here in Europe. It can also give us a new appreciation for the faith. The Pontifical Mission Societies President said that Missio Austria’s initiatives are “key to the future church”. The President of the PMS stresses that “the education of priests” is a key point because we see how important and essential the priests are to the people of the Global South.
