African Atlantic States to Meet in Morocco in Q1 of 2023 – The North Africa Post

The African Atlantic countries have decided that their next ministerial meeting will be held in Rabat in the first quarter 2023 to discuss the efforts to create an African zone of peace and stability.

The decision was made in New York, during a meeting that was chaired by Nasser Bourita (Moroccan foreign minister) on the sidelines the 77th session UN General Assembly.

The African ministers praised the establishment of the Permanent Secretariat of African Atlantic States based in Rabat. It is charged with implementing the inclusive decisions made by member countries. They also stressed the importance of coordination and consultation on matters of common interest.

The African Atlantic countries have also been urged to contribute to the work of the thematic groups set up to foster political & security dialogue, promote the blue economy, enhance maritime connectivity and cooperation in energy, sustainable development and environment protection.

Ministers agreed to establish a progressive, collective partnership for strengthening cooperation and integration through concrete actions and programs for shared development, stability, and prosperity.

Moroccan FM stated in his opening address that this geostrategic alliance was made possible by King Mohammed VI’s vision and commitment to make the African Atlantic grouping a model for inter-African cooperation and south-south cooperation.

The 1st ministerial meeting for African Atlantic States took place in Rabat on 8 June with the participation 21 countries.
