Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, reaffirmed, Tuesday before the UN General Assembly, Morocco’s constant position in favor of the Palestinian issue, based on the two-state solution, as well as its commitment to continue its efforts to promote a peaceful settlement in Libya.

Akhannouch recalled, in his address, the message addressed by King Mohammed VI to Mahmoud Abbas Abu Mazen, president of the State of Palestine, on December 20, 2020, in which the Sovereign reiterated the Kingdom’s constant position on the Palestinian issue, based on the two-state solution, as internationally agreed, as well as the commitment to negotiations between the Palestinian and Israeli parties as the only way to achieve a final, lasting and comprehensive settlement to this conflict.

As Chairman of Al-Quds Committee under the Organization of Islamic Cooperation the King reiterated that Morocco will not spare any effort to preserve the historic and ancestral identity of Holy City as a land of coexistence, peace and harmony. He also reiterated his determination to protect the special status of Al Quds Asharif, to respect the freedom of religious rituals for followers of the three monotheistic faiths, and to ensure the inviolability of Al-Aqsa Mosque.

As part of Morocco’s constant commitment to improving the living conditions of the Palestinians, the King led a mediation that resulted in the opening, without interruption, of the Allenby/King Hussein border crossing, linking the West Bank and Jordan, which will reflect positively on the lives of the Palestinians and will have a beneficial impact on the daily lives of the Palestinians and facilitate the movement of people and goods.

Referring to Libya, the Head Of Government said that, based on the history and the common destiny linking Morocco and this country, as well as the positive momentum created through the Skhirat agreement, and the Bouznika negotiations, the Kingdom continues to support peaceful resolution of the conflict.

“Morocco remains convinced that the crisis in Libya can only be solved by Libyans themselves without foreign intervention or agenda,” he said, recalling that the Kingdom welcomes the appointment of Abdoulaye Bathily to the post of Special Representative for Libya and head of the UN Support Mission in that country, and expresses its full readiness to cooperate with him in order to contribute effectively to the efforts made so that the Libyan parties reach the necessary consensus for the holding of legislative and presidential elections, as the only way to overcome the current situation.
