Ethiopian, Geven-SkyTecno to manufacture blankets for Boeing 737 MAX – New Business Ethiopia

Geven SkyTecno and Ethiopian Airlines inaugurated a stateof-the-art facility to produce Insulation Blankets on Boeing 737 MAX planes. This was part of a Boeing agreement (BSCA), between The Boeing Company, Geven Skytecno and Ethiopian Airlines.

The new joint venture company of Ethiopian Airlines and Geven-SkyTecno, named “Ethiopian Sky Technologies”, is based in Addis Ababa with primary manufacturing facility at Bole Airport. Ethiopian Airlines owns 51% and SkyTecno 49%.

As per their agreement, the parties are jointly manufacturing the products as a supplier to The Boeing Company in Italy and Ethiopia. Geven-SkyTecno contributed its manufacturing expertise, process technology expertise, and was responsible for speeding up industrialization, qualification processes, and training skills to The Joint Venture.

SkyTecno and Ethiopian Airlines invested in state-of-the art blankets manufacturing equipment to offer unrivalled customer service. The Joint Venture focuses primarily on delivering tailored solutions for Boeing 737 MAX planes.

Products are produced in a multi-cultural environment that combines the African and European continents. Quality control is strictly enforced to ensure products meet the highest standards of the aviation industry.

As we have a very well established MRO capability with an excellent track record of providing aircraft maintenance we can leverage this capability and experience to further develop our Aerospace Manufacturing capability and eventually make it one of the key Strategic Business Units of the Airline.”

Ethiopian Sky Technologies is manufacturing the aerospace products and delivering them in accordance to the Agreement and the strict requirements set out by the Aerospace Industry. The partnership with Ethiopian Airlines will allow Ethiopian Airlines to expand its aerospace manufacturing capabilities. Geven-SkyTecno also enhances Ethiopia’s manufacturing infrastructure and international trade connections.

As Chief Executive Officer of Ethiopian Sky Technologies PLC, Mr. Henock Nigatu is the leader. With his 25 years of experience at Ethiopian Airlines, where he has served in Managerial positions for most of this time, including serving as Manager of Group Alliances & Commercial Cooperation in his last assignment, Henock Lemma Nigatu has taken over the leadership of the joint venture company to foster and enhance the development of the new aerospace manufacturing capabilities.
