Algeria’s hostility to Morocco spills over to stadiums – The North Africa Post

Moroccan soccer players were attacked on the pitch by their Algerian counterparts. They were joined by security forces, fans, and other supporters. It was a deplorable scene which not only violated sportsmanship but also showed that Algerian media has been spreading propaganda against Moroccans.

After winning the final, photos and videos on social networks showed Algerian soccer players brutally attacking a Moroccan goalkeeper. Meanwhile, adult fans invaded the pitch to attack other Moroccan players under 17 in an Oran stadium.

Morocco’s Royal Football Federation condemned the “savage attack” by the Algerian players and fans and deplored the lack of security.

The Algerian president, who has not tweeted in two months, took the opportunity to congratulate the Algerian team again, while turning his blind eye to the disaster organization and his own security problems.

This is the result of a serious attack by Algerian fans and players on Moroccan under-age footballers in the host country, which is supposed offer all security and hospitality.

Moroccan teenage footballers have been exposed to insults by the fans all along the game let alone the degrading treatment they received after the game’s end.

Algerian regime has poisoned stadiums with anti-Moroccan rhetoric. Algeria banned a Moroccan team from covering the Mediterranean games at Oran in June.

Algeria’s military junta misses no chance to politicize sports championships to divert attention from the real problems of authoritarianism, poverty and instability suffered by the Algerian people.

Fans now insulting Moroccan teams in Algerian stadiums is a common thing unfortunately fed by hatred of any Moroccan regime.

During the same Mediterranean games, the Algerian organizers went as far as omitting the last part of the Moroccan national anthem saying the Kingdom’s motto “God, the Homeland and the King.”

It is even called the Fassi anthem by organizers to avoid saying Morocco. This is a deplorable act of hostility that violates neighborliness.

Algerians in Oran have shown violence because of the propaganda machine that has been running on Algerian media. This propaganda machine has been spreading hateful content toward Morocco and Moroccans.

History will be able to recall that under-aged Moroccan footballers were attacked and beaten by their Algerian hosts, which included adult fans.
