PRESIDENT Hage Geingob believes there are signs that Namibia is on the road to economic recovery.

Geingob made this statement in a speech Nangolo Mbumba, vice president, read for him at the official opening ceremony of the Ongwediva Annual Trade Fair.

Geingob says that Namibia’s economic challenges should be a learning experience for all citizens.

“In light of recent events, it is crucial that government, private sector, labour unions and civil society work together to develop positive solutions that will enable our economy to become more robust and resistant to external shocks in

future,” the president said.

Geingob encouraged the organisers to work closely with government ministries, all relevant role players, to promote the Ongwediva Annual Trade Fair to attract more international exhibitors.

He noted that it was a great achievement that the trade fair attracted more than 350 international and local exhibitors this year.

Licky Erastus (Managing Director Mobile Telecommunications Limited) spoke at the same conference. She said that in Harambee’s spirit, success is more likely when Namibians pool their resources and expertise in the same direction for socio-economic project development.

Sepo Haihambo (executive officer, First National Bank) said that the bank would continue its support for the trade fair at Ongwediva’s commercial branch. The bank would also get involved in guiding the Namibian financial and economic agenda towards Vision 2030.

“Our enduring involvement can be witnessed by how much we contribute to state coffers through direct and indirect taxes and the upliftment and development of communities through the bank’s foundation,” she said.

“We continue to strive for a globally competitive Namibia and this trade fair helps us explore the full potential of trade, business and investment opportunities that Namibia and the rest of the world has to offer,” Haihambo said.
