The kingdom of Saudi Arabia has pledged to invest $14 billion in Uzbekistan including the construction of the world’s largest wind farm with a capacity of 1.5 GW that will power 1.65 million homes, reports say.
The Gulf country’s power company ACWA Power will build the farm in the Karakalpakstan region.
The project will solve the kingdom’s chronic energy shortages. According to reports, ACWA Power has already started building two smaller wind farms within the Bukhara region.
Saudi Arabia, which is oil-rich, has connected its first windfarm to the country’s grid within the 2030 Vision. The 400-megawatt Dumat Al-Jandal wind farm – developed by EDF Renewables and Masdar – is made up of 99 wind turbines.
