Egypt witnessing increase in divorces – The North Africa Post

According to data from the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics, Middle East Monitor (MEMO), reports, the divorce rate in Egypt is increasing. The country registered 245,777 cases last year, an increase of 223,36 cases the year before.

The increase in divorces is 14.7 percent. The CAPMAS’s Annual Bulletin of Marriage and Divorce Statistics for the year 2021 also revealed that the number of marriage deeds issued in the country reached 880,041 in 2021 compared to 876,015 in 2020; a slight increase of 0.5 per cent.

The 25-30 age group represents the largest segment of society where most marriages were recorded; 352,259 contracts represent 40% of the total deeds.

With only 4,662 marriage contracts, people over 70 had the lowest rates of marriage. Data also show that the average age of marriage was 30.7 years in 2021.
