The Namibia Biomass Industry Group will host a biomass fair in Windhoek, 7 and 8.

N-Big released a statement saying that the event was organized in collaboration the World Bioenergy Association, Bundesverband Bioenergie. (BBE), and Bush Control and Biomass Utilisation Project implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.

Standard Bank Namibia sponsors the fair, which will be held under the theme “Discovering a New Decade For Biomass”

Progress Kashandula is the chief executive officer at N-Big. He describes the Standard Bank Biomass Fair 2022 to be an event that updates biomass stakeholders and the general public on positive sector developments, especially after a two-year hiatus caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The bush biomass sector has the potential to contribute to socio-economic development and an inclusive bio-economy for Namibia,” he says.

The organizers claim that the two-day event will be held in hybrid format with video-streamed presentations followed by interactive panel discussions.

The symposium will take place on September 7, and bring together researchers and academics in biomass to discuss scientific advances and solutions in biomass utilisation. This symposium will also help advance research and market penetration.

“It is an opportunity for scientists, university students, and entrepreneurs to keep up to date with the latest scientific research and developments. This symposium is coordinated by the Namibian University of Science and Technology,” the N-Big statement says.

The second day will concentrate on developments in environmental issues and legal and regulatory frameworks. It will also include market and finance, bio-value chains, market, finance, access, technology transfers, and certification services.

More than 15 international and local speakers will be presenting on trends, opportunities, or other topics related to biomass.

The minister of environment, tourism and forestry will launch the National Strategy for the Sustainable Management of Bush Resources In Namibia (2022-2027) with the support of the Bush Control and Biomass Utilisation Project, which is being implemented by GIZ.

Magreth Mengo, Standard Bank spokesperson, said that investing in platforms such the biomass fair adds tremendously to the bank’s purpose.

“We are currently investigating and financing many domains of clean renewable energy, and have high expectations for the future of these resources, including biomass.

“The collaboration with the biomass fair organisers helps us to educate people on the possibilities that lies in this infant industry,” she says.

The annual biomass fair is an event that showcases the thriving bush biomass sector in Namibia and the surrounding region.

According to N-Big this fair will be a great place for networking and exchanging information on bush control, biomass utilisation and best practices.
