Mogadishu(SONNA)-Some members of the Somalia’s Lower House of Parliament whose constituency is Hiiraan region, were seen fighting alongside with Somali National Army and regional forces near Mahas district in the same region to thwart terrorists’ further atrocities against locals there during this month, August, 2022

Mohamed Abdukadir (the capital) and Mohamed Burale (the capital of Hiiraan, made an assessment about the current humanitarian, drought, and economic situation in the region. They also learned shocking news that terrorists had destroyed all water-wells, which were vital to the lives and livelihoods of residents and livestock in Mahas district, as well as other areas within the region.

The members joined the forces fighting with Al Shabab militants right after their trip to Beledweyne. They were seen wearing Army uniforms with AK-47 rifles on their shoulders.

“We returned back to our constituency to see the reality of the impacts of the drought situation on the ground and draw the attention to the Federal Government and International Partners back to the capital, the drought left negative impacts to the people and livestock, the situation is very dire and Al-Shabaab terrorists worsened the tough circumstances because they are destroying only accessible water-wells available”, Burale said.

He said the terrorists burnt down over 15 residential villages after clashes with the locals first, then SNA and regional forces re-enforced them, in order, to stop militants’ intent to inflict more casualties and displacement.

Mohamed Abdukadir on his side said they appeared at the frontlines because there was no alternative but to support one another and stand shoulder-to-shoulder.

During the month, more than 40 Al-Shabaab terrorists were killed and many others were injured in the operation. Somalia’s elite forces and U.S Africom also killed number of Al-Shabaab militants in airstrikes in the past two weeks in the same region. Sources claim that the militants plan to flee a location they still control, as the joint forces intensified their assault on the militants.

“Al-Shabaab men claim to be Islam, but they are not. There is no religion that encourages such brutal acts. Neither Islam nor Christianity, never, ever, look at this water-well, people from 27 villages in remote areas used to fetch water from this, but they destroyed and buried, is there an enemy worst than this ?”, Governor of Hiiraan region, Ali Jeyte Osman exclaimed while standing at the crime scene.

One of the Mps, Mr. Abdukadir told SONNA by Phone today that they had returned to Mogadishu’s capital Mogadishu this Friday. He would share his assessment and the reality of what they saw with the House of the People and all other parliamentarians from the region the next day.

The group was able to control more areas of the region, blocked key roads and isolated Bulaburte town for over ten year. This group also destroyed a newly built airport in the town by using bomb explosions this year.

The Group was responsible for the terrorist suicide attacks and car bomb attacks that killed the most people during the parliamentary elections held in Beledweyne in Hiiraan, which was the second electoral area of Hirshabelle State.
