ASIA/HONG KONG – The Hong Kong Catholic Marriage Advisory Council – Spiritual accompaniment on a common pathway

Hong Kong (Agenzia Fides – Spiritual accompaniment on a Common Path) – This is what the Hong Kong Catholic Marriage Advisory Council has accomplished in 55 years. It was established in 1965 by Fr. Jesuit. Edward Collins, S.J. (1915-2003), who was also the first president. Today, one his confreres was the Bishop of Hong Kong (Msgr. Stephen Chow Sau Yan S.J. He is now the head of the organization that promotes and protects the sacrament marriage among Christian couples.
According to Kung Kao Po’s weekly newsletter, Bishop Chow stated that the primary purpose of the church was to be a field hospital and not a classroom nor an inquisition. The bishop urged the members of the organization to “protect marriage between women and men as a commitment for their lives.” “In order for happy married life to be promoted, the wounds of both the couple and others involved must also be healed,” the bishop sermons. He concluded that one must “infect others by love”. “A person must feel loved, respected, and loved by others regardless of marital or familial status.”
During the Eucharistic Celebration, participants recited the World Congress of Families prayer together. Bishop Chow presented the certificates to the volunteers in the diocesan natural and premarital protection groups.
Ms. Chiu Yuen Fun, director-general of Hong Kong Catholic Marriage Advisory Council, said that the pandemic has created tensions in marital relationships. “Following Pope Francis’ guidance on the art and practice of accompaniment in the document Amoris Laetitia we plan to work closely with parishes to create the Christian family and support families and couples through understanding and accompaniment.
