Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Dr. Fred Matiang’i has issued 26,588 Title deeds to the residents of Makueni County as part of government efforts to settle historical land issues in the country.

The title deeds will be beneficial to more than 37,000 households, including Mbooni (11,121), Kilungu (10,365), Makueni (3.963), Kibwezi (1.139), respectively.

Dr. Matiang’i made the announcement Thursday at Kikima Mixed Secondary School in Mbooni West Sub County, where he issued title deeds to beneficiaries in the area.

The CS also cautioned residents not to sell their land, as this could impoverish their families. Instead, they encouraged them to use the land for farming to provide their own food.

“Don’t be deceived into selling your land without considering your family because in the long run they stand to suffer,” said Matiang’i.

He also cautioned the Deputy County Commissioners chiefs against authorizing the sale of land without the approval family members. This was to reduce family feuds that could result from the haphazard disposal land in the county.

“You chiefs and deputy county commissioners make sure anybody who wishes to sell land follows the right procedure. You must ensure that the family is involved before approving the land sale,” he emphasized.

Prof. Kivutha Kibwana from Makueni praised the national government’s issuances. He said that his government had spent Sh50million on surveys, which culminated with the issuance title deeds for the county.

The governor also revealed that Nguu Masumba was nearing completion on land adjudication. This will lead to the issuance of title documents for the residents of the area.

Makueni Senator Mutula Kidonzo Junior, on the other hand, urged beneficiaries to use title deeds for loans to help educate their children and provide for their own needs.
