Antoine Rutayisire is the Pastor of Remera Anglican Church and he has urged Rwandans not to forget about Fathers and Mothers unions in Anglican Church. This will help build better families and foster good values in youth.

He made these remarks following the enrolment in Fathers Union of 22 men, and Mothers Union of 74 women, respectively. This event took place at the church’s July 10.

Mothers Union is a group of women from the Anglican Church of Rwanda that aims to promote family wellbeing. It also aims for the demonstration of the Christian faith in action, by the transformation and nurturing of all forms of the family worldwide.

The Fathers Unions’ main focus is to nurture men as responsible citizens both to the country and their families since family is the foundation of the nation and community.

According to Rutayisire, the members of the two unions help each to become better Christians by taking care of each other, their families as well as other different vulnerable people in society.

“They come together and help families resolve different issues. For Mothers’ Unions, where one of them is vulnerable in any way, they come to her help,” he said.

“ They for instance identify mothers with no health insurance and pay for them. Men also do the same on their side.”

Rutayisire also revealed how the members of the unions train young couples who are interested in starting a family. They often follow up on these couples even after they have married to ensure that they continue to build a strong family.

James Kazubwenge (president of Fathers Union at Remera Parish Anglican Church), stated that the Fathers Union’s 365 members participate in various activities for the church and community. He believes this has been crucial in reducing conflict within families.

James Kazubwenge, President of Fathers Union of Remera Parish of Anglican Church, spoke at the event

“Today, we paid health insurance for 258 people including those who are not members of the Anglican Church. This is a significant act both for the church and the country. Fathers Union helps the church but also the country to solve conflicts in families and contribute to their development.”
