Minister Biruta delivers Kagame’s message to Burundian counterpart

President Evariste Ndayishimiye from Burundi received a message on Friday, June 1, from his counterpart President Paul Kagame.

Vincent Biruta, Minister of Foreign Affairs and  International Cooperation, delivered the special message and among others, the delegation had Brig. Gen Vincent Nyakarundi was the Head for Defence Intelligence at Rwanda Defence Force.

 

It was on the sidelines of the country’s 60th Anniversary of Independence.

 

After six years of frosty relations, the two neighboring countries have been trying to improve their ties through a series high-level bilateral meetings between military and security officials.

 

Talks between the heads of military intelligence on both sides took place from time to time about cross-border security cooperation.

In July 2021, Prime Minister Edouard Ngirente led a Rwandan delegation to Burundi for the country’s 59th Independence Day celebrations. While in Bujumbura, at the time, Ngirente reiterated Rwanda’s commitment to restore ties with Burundi.
